Description
Ascoglossum calopterum (Reichenbach f.) Schlechter. Professor Heinrich G. Reichenbach originally named this attractive species as Saccolaium calopterum in 1882, in the Gardener’s Chronicle. Dr. Rudolf Schlechter transferred the generic epiphet for this plant to Ascoglossum in 1914, in Die Orchidaceen von Deutsch-Neu-Guinea.
It has been recorded from throughout New Guinea, Maluku an in the Philippines. It grows as an epiphyte, at elevations of up to 300 meters.
Growht Habit: upright, monopodial
Flower colour: varying shades of purple.
